The coastline of the
Western Algarve has picture postcard scenery with huge dramatic cliffs,
numerous beautiful sandy
beaches and delightful traditional fishing villages dotted
along the coast to the West from Lagos to Sagres and
Cape St. Vincent which is the most Westerly point in Europe. Most of
the region comprises a Natural Parque for plants and wildlife.

Burgau is at the
edge of this protected area. Its charming cobbled streets and
brightly painted houses ease you into a slower pace of life, making
memories that draw people back year after year.
The Algarve region's
natural boundary is the mountains of Sierra de Monchique. Here you
encounter pretty mountain villages and passes, wooded hills from where
there are spectacular views of the whole south east coastline.
The pretty mountain Spa town of
Monchique is famous for its natural mineral waters and its market
and local crafts.
Burgau
is a one hour's drive from
Faro Airport,
mostly along the A22
motorway.
The wonderful
regional capital,
Lagos, about 10 Km to the east, has
narrow cobbled streets lined with colourful shops, cafe bars
and restaurants and a
lovely palm-lined sea front, and everywhere you turn there
is a picture-postcard scene - so don't forget your camera!
The daily fish market, the
weekly farmer's market, the marina, the historic
fortifications and churches
are not to be missed, and Lagos Zoo, dolphin safaris and
visits to nearby Zoomarine and other water parks are
very popular with children. Lagos has an abundance of good
restaurants offering the best of local fresh produce at
reasonable prices!
Lagos is steeped in
history due to its strategic position on the coast. It has a large
marina and offers a super choice of everything from ancient
buildings and historic ruins to shopping, restaurants, nightlife, zoo,
boat trips to see the marvellous grottoes and for whale and dolphin
watching.

Lagos is often
called the jewel of the Algarve, and it is easy to see why! It
is such pleasure to walk along the beautiful palm fringed
waterfront, discover the old fort, town walls and bustling
narrow streets filled with open air restaurants and market
stalls and everywhere a smile on people's faces!
A
regular bus service connects
Lagos, Luz and Burgau.
